The CIRCO Materials Module helps make informed circular material choices depending on the application of the product and the system around it. The module addresses the environmental impact of plastics, metals, ceramic materials, wood, paper and cardboard, other natural materials during production, use and end-of-life.
In a circular economy, we need to be more conscious about how we use our raw materials. It is essential to make a well-considered choice of materials. Within CIRCO we always look at materials in relation to the application (product level) and the system in which this product functions (system level). The Materials Module thus provides a unique perspective on the impact of materials during their lifetime to provide us with the necessary technical knowledge to design circularly. The central government and the signatories of the Raw Materials Agreement have drawn up 5 transition agendas for economically important sectors and chains that are environmentally burdensome. 4 of these sectors and chains - namely plastics, manufacturing, construction and consumer goods - form the starting point of the CIRCO Materials Module.

With the support of the government, CIRCO therefore activates entrepreneurs and creative professionals to (re)design products, services and business models in order to subsequently conduct circular business.
