Usage and behavior

The longer a product can be used, the more sustainable it is. And the more sparingly a user handles a product, the more suitable it is afterwards for reuse or refurbishment. Smart design choices ensure that a product retains its value over time. This can be done, for example, with product features that extend the use of a product and additional services to maintain its quality. But also by using design to influence user behavior. In any case, it is important to carefully consider the use phase during the design process.

There are several design strategies that help products last longer in the use phase. For example, consider Design for Disassembly, where a product is designed to be easily disassembled. This ensures that you can easily make repairs and upgrades. Or deploy Adhesion and Trust, which encourages the user to handle the product carefully and is less likely to replace it.
